Raw Material

The new environmental, social and economic trends gear traditional agriculture towards one that is more committed to the environment, in a way that it is more compatible with the preservation of natural resources and product competitiveness.

Based on these trends and with the aim of supporting the sustainable development of the market, the established lines of work are mainly aimed at the certification of compliance with the requirements for raw material sustainability as part of the final product certification, with a competitive cost for the production of bioethanol materializing in projects with the following objectives:

  • Analysis and identification of the most sustainable raw materials on a worldwide level to meet the integration model of such production systems in the strategic development of biofuels.
  • Market research for a potential supply of sustainable biomass around Abengoa Bioenergía plants in Europe.
  • Development of a technological solution capable of tracing and assigning greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and verifying other additional sustainability criteria, for each consignment of raw material consumed in the production process of biofuel.
  • Activities related to the selection of species, variety improvements and agronomic development of first generation crops (wheat, barley, corn and beet) together with second-generation lignocellulosic crops (sweet sorghum, paper sorghum and energy corn).

ABNT directs its efforts in different projects that allow for the achievement of the general objectives through the methodological development and implementation of new concepts in traditional agriculture and in the supply chain.
